SPACE CASE!

Holy Moly! I am a space cadet! I LOVE LOVE LOVE writing for this blog. It gives me something to look forward to at the end of the week and I love (and HOPE!) that people read and enjoy what I have to say.
Here is my past week in a nutshell (or my excuses for being a nutcase!):
*Collin started soccer
*My mom came on surprise visit from Vegas for her birthday
*Evyn is JUST ABOUT to walk. This means so many things, good and bad!
*Evyn started screaming...ear piercing screams....to get her way
*We had to take our 50 lb. 4 month old puppy to the vet. And by we I mean me, Evyn and Collin. Just picture it: baby in one arm, diaper bag on the other, holding Collin's hand and DRAGGING the huge wuss of a dog behind me, and trying to open the 2 ton door into the vet. FML
*I received my Jamberry Independent Consultant kit in the mail and HAD to dive right in! Highlight of the week for sure! (Thanks Chels)
*Playgroup...self-explanatory.
*2 Photo shoots plus editing another = I am behind!
*Collin peed the bed for the first time ever; this means my fat-ass climbing up a bunk bed to pull the sheets off. FML
*Messy house + minor OCD = grumpy mommy.
*Grocery shopping with 2 whining kids. I shop at Winco which ALSO means I get to bag it myself, load it up, unload it, cook it, clean it up. FML (again)
*My photoshoot for tomorrow canceled. :( & :) lol

I am sure I am missing something. This week has been more than crazy. I am pooped! Thank goodness my SIL is coming tomorrow to take Collin off our hands so I can work on prepping my garden for Spring! YAY! This will also be a high point of the week!

Mrs. Chelsie turns 28 (before me I might add)!

Okay, just bear with me.. it's my BFF's birthday this week and I just have to do a little tribute to her!  For the past 15 years this woman has been one of the strongest rocks I have had to lean on.

I love that she is my person and without a doubt I know that I can call on her... even if it is to dispose of a body (wink, wink) I just know that she has my back to the end! Love that feeling. Best feeling ever. It's quite comforting that I know without a doubt that no matter what I do. I have My person. My person that will always have my back. No questions asked.

She seriously says this stuff. I love it!

I love that she is "Miss Know Everything." No that is not an insult. While texting the other day I said some thing to the fact that I'm glad she knew everything and I can always count on her to be the voice of reason.

She responded: "Are you serious, or are you making fun of me?"

Totally serious.

She is Queen of knowing all that is good. She knows everything about how to make a person feel good when they are the most down on themselves. And I will tell you what, after 15 years, she has seen a lot of my downs.

I love that she knows everything about me and she shows up for me regardless of my deepest darkest demons.

And On a Lighter Note....

I am almost quite certain that this may have happened a couple times. Maybe not exactly like this, but she may have helped me find my bed... or someone else's bed on occasion. This is when you know you have a true friend!! LOL!

And how many times has this proven to be true... True love of a friend is running a little hooker off the road and wreaking her car and just driving away, pointing and laughing. *I will have to admit, it was me doing the driving, but she totally pointed and laughed. Nobody messes with my friend. NOBODY. Ya hear?

Or....  Totally agreeing to keep our friendship a secret for certain situations and not pulling that off very well because every sentence starts of with "Me and Kacey"..... or "Chelsie and I..".... Or "this one this one time she came out in her underwear and almost killed a girl for me..." LOL! Yup true friendship all the way.

Or driving hours at the drop of a time because I called you in need of a friend and your were there in 2 hours flat ready to go to bat for me. You have ALWAYS shown up for me. Always.

And I roll with a pretty awesome friend. I love you Chelsie and Happy Birthday!!

By the way I'm totally glad that you are older than me! Here is to another 15 years and 15 more years after that and 15 more years after that!

I look forward to spending many more Birthdays with you. But mostly I look forward to your boobs sagging first!

And just remember.....

Well, that was an awfully long love fest!! I hope your day is filled with lots of love, hugs, and kisses and that it is truly one of the most amazing days for one of the most amazing people I have ever had the privilege of sharing the same drink, the same desires, the same bed, the same boyfriend... (Well maybe not the same boyfriend!) But that would be true love all the way. I would not mind if you were my Sister Wife one bit!!  HA!

Ovaltine Black-Bottom Banana Bread

Ingredients
1 1/2 cups flour
1 tsp baking powder
1 tsp baking soda
1/2 tsp salt
1 1/2 cups mashed ripe bananas
1/2 cup (1 stick) butter or margarine, soft
1 cup sugar
1 egg
1 tsp vanilla
1/2 cup chocolate ovaltine

Combine flour, baking soda, baking powder and salt; set aside. In a medium bowl, blend butter and sugar; add egg and vanilla. Blend until thoroughly combined then add bananas. Add dry ingredients. Mix well. Divide batter in half. Add Ovaltine to half the batter and spread in bottom of greased large loaf pan, 2 regular loaf pans, or 9x13" pan. Spread remaining batter on top. Bake at 350 degrees for 25 minutes.
*Add 2 TBSP. Flour to dry ingredients for high altitude. :)

This recipe is my favorite for Banana Bread. My mom used to make this for us as kids and every time I make it, I think of her. Your kids will go nuts for this! So good and super easy!

And We Meet Again.

Holy Cow! Is it really Wednesday again? Time has just been going by so fast lately.

I have been a little out of sorts with myself. Spending a week on the beautiful ocean in beautiful Mexico can do that to you. You can read about our little adventure that is The Disney Cruise HERE it was an absolute blast!!

I seen this on my Facebook news feed the other day and had a laugh.

So true......

I totally know that I am the last one. The "what I actually do" picture. I would love to think that I am this beautiful stay at home goddess, but lets face it..... I'm NOT! I am just as frazzled as the rest of you! Except for the one person that is reading this who actually truly is stay at home goddess!

I salute you!

On a serious note the other day I woke up at 2:30 a.m! Oh it was just dreadful. I tried and tried and could not get myself to fall back asleep. So I did the only thing I knew, went downstairs plopped myself on the couch and watched the tube until the sun came up. Oh there are weird things on T.V during these awful hours.

I learned all about hyperhidrosis who knew there was such a thing. Interesting. Glad I don't have it.

I laughed at a girl with Tourette syndrome. I know. I am awful. But in my defense she was laughing at herself. By the way, I think I might just have to pretend to have Tourette syndrome on occasion and just start yelling profanities in random places at random people. That would be just too funny.

I found out my pillow is the reason I am not sleeping. No,  seriously I watched an hour infomercial about a pillow. Who the hell can talk about a pillow for an hour? I loved how everyone who "used" the pillow had a little caption under their name which said back sleeper, side sleeper, etc. Oh and how this pillow literally "changed their whole life!" I think I might need a new pillow.
I could use some changes!

I found out that Taylor Swift has actually made a song that I can stand. Click HERE to hear that. It could be that she finally wrote about something other than her boyfriends, or that she had help from The Civil Wars. Either way. I like it. Much better than the rest of her *music.*

On a side note, I found out this song is on the soundtrack to an upcoming movie I am dying to see. The Hunger Games!! STOKED!!

And last but not least, I am a freaking BOOB. These hormone meds I have been taking me have turned me into an emotional FREAK. I bawled through the previous mentioned song. Why? I have no clue. Just as I said, I'm a freak.

Happy Wednesday.

Warm Up to Your Valentine with This

Happy V-day all!  Let's get nice and toasty ASAP with a yummy hot chocolate recipe!

First you will need:

5 oz dark chocolate cut into small squares
2 cups full fat milk
2 cups half and half cream
sugar (optional)
1-2 tsp vanilla
1/2 cup Kahlua
Ready whip (for the top)

Then do this:
Heat the chocolate, milk and half and half over medium heat in a heavy saucepan, stirring until the chocolate has melted.

Then whisk it up until it is all frothy.

Now would be a good time to add the sugar.

Now add the Kahlua and vanilla; continue to whisk until the mixture is hot.

Remove from heat.

Pour into mugs and top with a mountain of whipped cream.

Enjoy with someone special, or by your self, I don't judge.

For a kid or Mormon friendly version, don't add the Kahlua ;)

Hugs and Kisses

Things Are Becoming Obsolete This Decade

I read this about a year ago on www.huffingtonpost.com and found it so interesting. I saved it to my computer and want to print it out and put it in my kids's scrapbooks. It's funny to me that I know about all these things and my kids will have no real clue about them!

VCR and VHS tapes-We all know what these are! Unless you were born in a cave of course or were born in the 2000's.
Can't say I will miss rewinding, fast forwarding...ugh! This is one advancement in technology I am happy about!
Travel Agents-Now with sites like Kayak,  Orbitz, Travelocity, etc, people book their own travel.
I have to admit: I am one to book my own travel! I would do it no matter what. I like to know exactly what's going on and being in charge. No one to blame but myself if something goes wrong.
The separation between work life and personal life-These days we no longer have to be in the office or even near a computer to be at work or in touch. With smartphone, ultra-light laptops and WiFi, we can reply to our colleagues on the go.
I must say, as a photographer this one is hard! I take my camera everywhere I go. Sometimes I realize I have had my camera to my eye the whole time instead of enjoying the zoo with my kids, etc. I know that is a tad off this particular subject, but honestly...the convenience of having digital, portable camera's with so many settings that make it so you aren't hauling lighting equipment around has it's downfalls!
Forgetting-The internet records everything and forgets nothing. There is pretty much a digital copy of everything we do: the emails we send, the phone calls we make, the places we go, the pictures we take, the opinions we write. We can collect data on everything which makes it harder than ever for us to forget what we have said or done.
I definitely do my share of forgetting! I write lists and lists to try and remember everything. I have no smartphone to remind me of things. Call me old school!
Bookstores-With the increased popularity of ebooks, it has put pressure on bookstores and put many out of business.
I think this is so terribly sad. I LOVE Barnes and Noble and Powell's Books in Portland, OR. I take my kids to B&N almost weekly and we sit and read and play trains. I do not have a Nook or Kindle and never will. I have 3 book cases full of books, with one dedicated to only children's books. I can't stress enough the importance of reading...and reading an actual book. Not to mention how bad it is for eyes to read computer screens, etc, hence part of my dislike for the ever popular iPad.
Watches-Still a style statement, but when is the last time you saw someone look at their wrist watch to tell you the time?? Replaced by cell phones, laptops, etc.
When the end of the world comes, some people will be happy they have their watches! I think....Maybe they won't matter, come to think of it..... ?
Phone Sex via 1-900 Numbers-Replaced by the internet. "Cybersex"
Not a fan of internet OR phone porn, so no real comments on this besides it's WAY more accessible to kids and teens via the internet.
Maps-GPS has replaced paper maps. They keep getting smaller, cheaper and more portable. They re in our cars and on our phones, Asking for directions, carrying paper maps, and even getting lost are all increasingnly obsolete.
I don't have a GPS and PROUDLY have a PAPER ATLAS in my cars. I ask directions. On a rare occasion, I have used Google Maps.
Classified Newspapers
Dial-Up Internet- Wow! I sure do remember this! Waiting for the dial tone and hearing the static and beeping. Ha! Makes me feel pretty old!
Encyclopedias- Still the same view on this as paper books. I have an encyclopedia and a kids encyclopedia...in paper. Not on the computer!
CDs-Replaced by digital music that can be downloaded online...one track at a time.
Another thing I don't own is an iPod. I have CDs coming out my ears and still buy them! In fact I just bought on the other day. Bob Marley. :)
Landline Phones-No need to state the obvious with this one (uh-hum...Cell phones). I don't have a landline but I have thought of getting one for emergencies.
Film and Film Cameras-Replaced with digital.
Again, as a photographer I think this is sad! I have a film camera. Do I use it? No. Do I plan to? Yes. Film is one of those things that will make a comeback like the neon hot pink of the 80's is coming back. Film is a different look and is gorgeous. I plan to work with it more in the future. I find the mystery of shooting and not knowing the outcome until it's processed very alluring. :)
Yellow Pages and Address Books-Replaced with smartphones and the web.
Catalogs
Fax Machines
Hand-Written Letters-This breaks my heart! I remember writing notes to my friends in school and to my mom. I still make it a top priority to write in my kids's journals all the time. I write long paragraphs in birthday cards, etc. I hand-write thank you cards. Replaced with text messages...what a sad, sad thing.

I just figured I would share this interesting piece of information. Not that they are all that important (besides the books of course), but it's fun to know. I also read that in some time not far away, that schools will all be going digital as well. Like text books on iPads and stuff. Wow...sounds like something you would see on The Jetson's. The world is changing and hopefully for the better.  I have never been about keeping up with the Joneses but I will add that I am up to date on my computers (for editing) and also somewhat on my cameras (again for work). Sometimes you just can't help it!

Sew Fun!

Let me start out by saying TGIF! Yay for Fridays! And second off, this Hello Kitty sewing machine is to die for! I am oddly obsessed with Hello Kitty and could (and may someday) have all things Hello Kitty. :) (I even have her tattooed on my arm!)

Anywhooo..... I decided that after years of b*tching about wanting to learn to sew that I would just do it. Sit down and teach myself (after having my friend show me how to wind a damn bobbin). Ha!
I also decided to take on a MAJOR sewing project for my first go. Probably not the best idea, but I think it really turned out amazing! Here it is: http://www.amybutlerdesign.com/pdfs/Bloom_Quilt.pdf

I didn't use this fabric or anything like it at all. Mine is busy and SUPER FUN! I wasn't sure about it at first, but I love it now that it's all tied together. That's just the kind of person I am. Crazy, busy and fun! This is for my baby girl, Boo. All the things I love (flowers, skulls, peacock feathers, birds...) I wasn't obsessed with making it matchy-matchy and that's why it was so fun to do! I still need to attach all the yo-yos, but this quilt will be amazing when fully finished!
Some of the directions were not correct on the pattern to make this, so I had to improvise. I am so lucky I am somewhat craft or this EXPEN$IVE quilt could have been a disaster! Phew!

So after finishing this, I decided to try my hand at a bib and it turned out ADORABLE! I love it and have people wanting one already. Wow...this could turn into something good! ;)

Making this quilt was quite the experience and I am SEW glad I did it! Boo will have something special that I made for her that she can cherish forever. I LOVE SEWING! Watch for more creations!

My Teacher

Every day you continue to amaze me

every day you teach me something new

Today I had to stop and think as I caught a glimpse of you

I was just cleaning the house going on about my day

And in the corner of my eye, I saw you……dancing in my way

I just went with my instinct and yelled at you to move

Never mind how that would make you feel

I just had too many things to do

That day I folded the laundry, washed the dishes, and vacuumed the floor

I went to work and came home, to find you sleeping behind a closed door

I never got a chance to tell you, I loved you and good night

Instead I sat alone and admired the house that looked so nice

Why didn’t I just take that minute when you were dancing in my way

To put the laundry down and dance with you that day?

I’m supposed to be your teacher but so many times you end up teaching me

Life is about those little moments……..I now take the time to see.
